Catch up

Hi friends! Sorry it’s been so long, my camera’s memory card is on the fritz and my spare time seems to be diminishing by the week. It’s been three weeks since the last post, and I’ve been on three more trips!

For the bicentennial, we headed to La Serena and Valle de Elqui. La Serena is a beach town about 6 hours north of Santiago by bus. We rented a cabin a few minutes from the beach and spent the weekend riding bikes, going for picnics, and of course attending a few parties. It seemed that all of Chile had taken off from work to go party at the beach. Fiestas Patrias parties are generally characterized by pisco, cueca, and asados (barbeques), really quite a fun combination. Here are a few pictures of our lovely weekend by the sea:

The next weekend, we headed to Cajon de Maipo, the mountain region just an hour outside of Santiago. It’s incredible how close Santiago is to some of the most beautiful natural scenery I’ve ever seen. We stayed the weekend with some friends of a friend who graciously allowed us to crash at their gorgeous house in the middle of the nature reserve. We passed the time taking walks to the waterfall, swimming in the frigid water, napping, and hanging around the house. It was another very relaxing weekend with some great friends.

So that pretty much sums up those two weekends. Good times with good friends. Things are really picking up here and I can’t believe I’m more than halfway through!

Post to follow on our INCREDIBLE trip this past weekend to the Atacama desert.
